#Goals and Updates

Winter 2022 has not been what I expected. To be completely honest, I’m glad we haven’t met our biggest goals yet. There is so much going on personally, locally, nationally, globally, politically.. a pretty consistent tsunami of events and worries. It’s been happy. It’s been sad. The only thing that’s been consistent is the inconsistency and the question, “what’s next?”

Clearly, I can’t answer that question for the world. I know for me, it’s more training and waiting to see what the current state and federal administrations do next with childcare. It’s also saving towards the big goals, focusing on living my practice, and getting to know and grow with the community around me (because how great is RVA?)

What are the goals? A care and co-working facility to serve families in the city and a mini bus that travels statewide to bring wellness practices and materials to families throughout Virginia.

That’s it. :D

As for updates, last year was phenomenal! So many certifications! Getting to work with the exceptional caregivers from Great Richmond SCAN’s Circle Pre-K to build their wellness tool kits for their students was the most exciting opportunity for me personally. GRSCAN is an awesome organization doing incredibly important work for Richmond kids and families. If you’re not familiar, please get familiar and consider volunteering and donating.

The other big event was a virtual breathing class I gave with VCU. It was fun. I felt informative and insightful, and I was talking to mostly doctors, professors, and other professionals within the organization (with the time to be there during the middle of the day.) Having the ability to make a small difference in the lives of people responsible for lives and the future outcomes of other’s lives fueled me to push myself harder to make a bigger difference.

Unfortunately, I pushed too hard and we did not enter the 2nd trimester of a pregnancy we’d been working on long before Night Owls was an idea. It’s been about 6 weeks and if it wasn’t for these practices and my family, I don’t know where I’d be right now. Lost. Drunk. Broken. Not here. Not still standing. Not looking forward. I’m grateful to and proud of myself for doing this work, for building the strength needed to move on, for believing I can, and for finally choosing to love myself through life’s tragedies instead of burying myself in all of the ways I have and can ruin things.

So a few wins, a loss and a lot of work to do still. I’m still here and we’re going to get there.

For now, I’m available for kids, teen and family yoga, pranayama and mindfulness and meditation, virtually or in person. I’m open and available to community partnerships and helping out in any way I can. I’m also taking more classes for additional certifications in pre and post natal yoga, 200 hour RYT (to teach the biggest kids), mental health first aid and reiki. Plus, ASD training with VCU, an ECD microcredential with Radford, and every other free resource I can wrap my brain around being offered that seems beneficial to Night Owls and Richmond families.

If you’re interested in accessing the free resources mentioned or working together, DM me on any socials or reach out to steph@nightowlsrva.com.

Thanks for sticking with us!
