Trauma-Informed Wellness for the Whole Family

6 certifications in 6 months! Over 350 hours of training, testing, and practicing! To say it’s been challenging is an understatement. The challenge has been well worth the reward of knowledge and clarity of direction.

The direction? Helping families that have experienced trauma find resources and develop skills to help them heal and succeed. Why? I’m a parent with PTSD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder and I am raising a child that has already experienced various forms of trauma in a world that is dealing with ongoing and unresolved traumas while reparenting myself. This is not easy, but it’s not as hard as it was without the tools I’ve acquired and the realization that there are so many people out there in the same struggle.

What do I know? I started with Yoga Breathing, which lead to Children’s Mindfulness and Meditation and then Children’s and Teen’s Yoga. Just yoga wasn’t enough, I wanted a deeper impact with my practice. So I decided to pursue a Trauma-Informed RCYT. Understanding the benefits of this style of yoga and wanting to expand my offerings to include caregivers, I added Family Yoga to my skill set. To deepen my understanding of Trauma-Conscious Care and to meet requirements for a local organization, I have attended Stewards of Children: Darkness to Light and the Stop Child Abuse Now Introduction to Trauma and Resilience Training. On top of all of that, my partner is finishing up an Honors course with the University of Michigan, so that we can also help with sleep consultation.

I’m also slowly making my way through a Reiki Level 1 through Master course and Duolingo Spanish but those are still on the hobby list, not the Imperative to the Success of Humanity list.

I recently taught my first Professional Development course for Childcare professionals and I’ve been consulting with various parenting groups. Spreading this information, helping normalize these simple practices and considerations and being able to grow into a part of my community in a way that helps me, my family and the lives of those around us with similar needs has become my life’s passion. I’m grateful and excited to share. How can we help you?
